Jane Muschenetz aka

Painting animal faces on the palm fronds I found on my daily walks was something I never knew I could do until the 2020 Quarantine. It began as a craft to do with my kids and kinda snowballed. The art brought me unexpected joy during a difficult time. I hope sharing it with others will bring them joy and inspiration as well.

(Read my poem about how this whole zoo started here and about how a frond becomes a living canvass here.)

My artwork and writing are informed by extensive travel and 20+ active years in education and business. I hold an MBA from MIT and serve on the board of  MIT Sloan Alum Club of San Diego, where I live with my husband and two kids. I am also on the PTA Board and coordinate the After School program of Birney Elementary, a wonderful, Title 1 K-5 school in University Heights.

A Russian-speaking Jew who came to the US as a refugee from Ukraine at 10yrs old, identity and cultural displacement strongly influence my writing (especially in work meant for grown ups.) As a member of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators (SCWI ), I am proud to contribute content to organizations that support inclusion, diversity, children, education, animals, art and literature. I also accept commissions. Please don't hesitate to contact me by using the form below.
